Quantitative
- paper used must be rectangular in shape with straight smooth edges and square corners of 90 degree angles.
- Paper weight should be between 18lb and 28lb.
- The weight of paper should be tested in size of 500 sheets stacked on top of one another.
- Successful paper airplanes should be made from a sheet of paper between 4x6 inches and 11x14 inches.
- The smallest created paper airplane was made form a piece of paper 2.99mm squared using a microscope and tweezers.
Qualitative
- A long tail gives directional stability.
- Gravity is a constant force that pulls the plane towards the ground.
- A swiss mathematician, Daniel Bemoulli, discovered that lift is created when moving air about a wing creates lower pressure.
- Total amount of lift depends on air speed and wing size.
- Airplanes can fly only when the total lift is large enough to counteract their weight.
