Harvard referencing - essay books.

The question I have chosen to extend my study of is 'Is it possible to describe any aspect of graphic design today as post-modern(ist)?'

I have taken out five books from the library; The Postmodern Arts, by Nigel Wheale, The politics of postmodernism by Linda Hutcheon, The condition of postermodernism by David Harvey, The postmodern reader by Charles Jencks, and finally What is post-modernism by Charles Jencks.

Harvard referencing system;

Wheale, N. (1995) 'the Postmodern arts', New York, Routledge.

Hutcheon, L. (1991) 'The politics of Postmodernism', New York, Routledge.

Harvey, D. (2000) 'The condition of postmodernity', Oxford, Blackwell Publishers Ltd.

Jencks, C. (1992) 'The post-modern reader', New York, ST MARTIN'S PRESS.

Jencks, C. (1996) 'What is Post-Modernism? (fourth edition)', Chichester, West Sussex, Wiley-Academy John
Wiley and Sons.

I will also be collecting research at the 'Postmodernism' exhibition on 2/1/12 at the V&A museum, London.

I have decided to take influences from 'the Postmodern arts' by Nigel Wheale as it contains two main chapters key to my chosen question; 'Postmodernism: a new representation?' and 'resisting the post modern', other area's of the book also reflect upon my question. (Library Shelf 306.1)

I came across 'The politics of Postmodernism' by Linda Hutcheon whilst flicking through a few post modern books on the shelves of Blenheim Street library. It takes you back to many key principles of Postmodernism and I feel this will allow me to expand my basic understand of what postmodernism is. Some important Chapters are 'What is postmodernism?' and 'Postmodernity, Postmodernism, and Modernism'. (Library Shelf 306.1)

The third book I have chosen to use as research for my essay on Postmodernism is 'The condition of
postmodernism' by David Harvey. The book reflects many elements discussed in the Postmodernism lecture (see Lecture 2 notes) including Modernity and Modernism, Postmodernism, Postmodernism in the city: architecture and urban design, Modernisation and POSTmodernISM or postMODERNism? (Library Shelf 306.1)

'The post-modern reader' by Charles Jencks, is another book chosen to aid my studies. There is one main chapter that I wish to focus on in this book; Chapter two - Late Modernism as Postmodernism. This focuses o the cultural change between modernism and postmodernism and discusses 'What is postmodernism?' 'Modernity: An unfinished Project' and 'The ecstasy of communication'.

Finally research book five that I have chosen is 'What is post-modernism?' by Charles Jencks. This discusses post-modernism within society and culture an focuses more on how Post-Modernism choose us, rather than us choosing postmodernism.
